This is a lot less developed than I'd hoped for, but I'm intrigued with the ideas this is trying to deal with, and I'm hoping to keep developing it further.
The two pieces of media that are major influences and inspiration for this are Michael Swanwick's "Mongolian Wizard" series of short stories and Hayao Miyazaki's anime "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind"
